With this long period of cold weather and snow, our beautiful lakes and ponds in Lochmere have become partly frozen.

While this unusual occurrence for Lochmere may be tempting for some to venture onto the ice, it is strongly recommended that no attempt be made to step on to any portion of a frozen lake or pond.  The ice and snow may appear to be thick and strong but that is not case.

We have seen and heard the reports of two individuals in Wake County falling into icy water.  Luckily everyone involved is okay.  But, regardless of what frozen water on our lakes and ponds look like .. it is not safe.  Residents are also reminded that dogs should not be allowed on to ice for the same reasons.

We also ask that no one throw rocks or any debris on to any frozen sections of Lochmere ponds or lakes.  However much fun this may be: It is vandalism, and causes damage to the shoreline where rocks have been removed.  There is a cost to retrieve the rocks and replace along the shoreline.
