Tuesday Evening Yoga  With Bonnye

Evening Yoga Class with Bonnye Hur are held on Tuesdays from 5:45 PM  to 6:45 PM in the Highlands Clubhouse (200 Loch Highlands Drive).  Classes are complimentary for Lochmere residents 18 and over.  No guests are allowed.

Bonnye's classes are appropriate for all levels of yoga experience and fitness level.  She will guide you though each posture and offer modification of poses that may be more challenging than others.  Yoga is about tuning into your body and breath, listening with awareness to what your body needs.  Classes will typically start with a short breathing and meditation practice, and end with relaxation and restorative stretches.  Throughout the class we will build upon standing poses and some vinyasa flow to build strength, flexibility and balance.

Bonnye Hur has been living adjacent to Lochmere since 1993 and has been practicing yoga since 1998. Bonnye practices traditional, eastern-style Hatha yoga, with an emphasis on the centering and connection of mind, body, and spirit. She recently undertook a 200-hour yoga teacher training program based out of Moving Mantra Yoga Studio in North Raleigh and has been teaching to friends and co-workers for over a year. She is very excited to work with her neighbors and share her love of yoga with the community.

Thursday Morning Yoga With Dori & Jenny

Lochmere hosts a  morning yoga class. Classes are held on Thursdays at 9:15-10:15 AM.  Classes are held at the Highlands Clubhouse (200 Loch Highlands Drive). 

The instructors are Dori McDarris and Jenny Turnage.  They will alternate weeks.

Dori McDarris has been a Lochmere resident for over twenty years. She has practiced yoga for 15 years and has been teaching yoga since 2014. Dori’s classes are vinyasa-based (linking breath with movement) with a strong emphasis on alignment. Her goal for every class is to encourage her students to calm their minds and to find clarity and peace while at the same time building strength, increasing flexibility and improving balance.

Dori enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, volunteering in the community, playing tennis, and running and walking her dog on the beautiful Lochmere trails.  

Jenny Turnage has been teaching yoga since obtaining her certification in 2011.  Her classes teach mindful movements with breath and incorporate poses for strength, balance, flexibility and end in deep relaxation.  She instructs yoga and fitness classes at Carolina Arbors in Durham, City of Raleigh Parks & Recreation and is adjunct professor in Health & Fitness Science at Wake Technical Community College.  In addition to yoga Jenny is a certified personal trainer and fitness nutrition specialist working with groups and clients privately.

Jenny serves the community volunteering for the SPCA of Wake County with their fundraising events and is a foster parent for special needs dogs.  She is a Raleigh native.

Ttai chiai Chi For Health On Wednesdays

Tai Chi classes are offered to Lochmere residents on Wednesday mornings in the Highlands Clubhouse (200 Loch Highlands Drive).

Please bring the completed registration form (HERE) to your first Tai Chi class.  Classes are limited to Lochmere residents 18 and older.  No guests are allowed.  Classes are complimentary.

 First introduced at Lochmere in the fall of 2013, these classes have become increasingly popular.  The classes are taught by Esther Minick.  Esther has been practicing Tai Chi for approximately 6 years and became certified 2 years ago.  She also practices a form of Yang.  

Tai Chi has gotten alot of press lately for being a gentle, healthful activity focused on breathing, balance, and posture.  It is distinguished from yoga in that it is a movement activity.

Currently Esther is teaching two different Tai Chi classes at Lochmere.

  • "Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention" , developed by Dr. Paul Lam in association with the Arthritis Foundation, which is suitable for adults of all ages. The class consists of warm up, instruction/practice of form, followed by cool down. This class is designed to build lower body strength for balance and movement. Both of these are important facilities for aging adults.
  • New for this year Esther is teaching the "Tai Chi 24 Form" program. This is a more traditional and longer Tai Chi form. It is longer than the Tai Chi for Arthritis.

Both classes are excellent ways to learn Tai Chi. Because they are both on going classes, beginners, intermediate, and experienced students learn together and are welcomed.

The schedule for these classes is as follows:

  • Wednesdays 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM – Yang 24
  • Wednesdays 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM – Tai Chi For Arthritis and Fall Prevention

zumba Zumba Gold On Thursdays With Elena


Zumba Gold classes for Lochmere residents are held at the Highlands Clubhouse (200 Loch Highlands Drive) on Thursdays at 6:00PM.   Clasess are 60 minutes and are complimentary.  Classes are complimentary and are available to Lochmere residents 18 & over.  No guests are allowed.

Please extend a big welcome to Licensed Zumba Instructor, Elena Murray. 

Zumba Gold takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of all active participants, especially those who are new to the program.  What can you expect:  (1) zesty music .. not just Latin, you'll hear Cha-Cha Rock 'n Roll, and even some Twist, (2) exhilarating, easy to follow moves, and (3) an invigorating party atmosphere. 

Our goal is simple:  We want you to have fun with your neighbors.  Dance experience is not necessary.  The moves in class are broken down in a slow and manageable manner.  Even if you don't perform each move perfectly, just come to class and move a little and have a lot of fun.  Zumba Gold also helps to improve balance, strength, flexibility, and, most importantly, the heart.

If you're looking for a fitness class that feels friendly and is alot of fun .. don't delay!  Join Elena on Thursdays.   It's great fun for all ages and genders.

The Clubhouse is available for rental by Lochmere residents, and is to be used for social activities only.

No business activities are allowed on the premises.

The clubhouse maximum occupancy is limited to eighty (80) persons.  The rental time is from 12:00 Noon until 12:00 midnight the day of the function.

It has a fully functional kitchen with a refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven, microwave,  and garbage disposal.

The clubhouse has a deck that overlooks the pool and lake that is available for use with the rental. 

There are restroom facilities for both men and women. 

Tables and chairs are provided as part of the rental agreement as follows:

  • 70 padded folding chairs.
  • 3 rectangular tables (6 ft. X 2 ft.)
  • 4 round tables (48 inches in diameter)

Additional chairs, tables, and any  linens are the responsibility of the renter.


The clubhouse may be rented by a resident (in good standing) for $125 per day (12 Noon to 12 Midnight). 

If a Clubhouse renter desires to use the pool also, the rental fee and pool admittance is $225 per day.  Clubhouse rental permits entry to the pool area at Highlands.  Admittance to the pool as part of the clubhouse rental is not an exclusive-use rental.  All homeowners may still use the pool facility.  This simply allows your guests to use the pool as well.  Pool access is only available from 4:00 PM until the pool closes at the regularly scheduled time.  Access to the pool is limited to no more than 25 non-residents.  A list of names must be provided along with the Reservation Form.

Pickleball is a crazy name for a fun game that has been around since 1965 that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It is played with a pickleball, a polymer smaller version of a wiffle ball, and a hard paddle. According to the United States of America Pickleball Association (USPA) there are over 100,000 active pickleball players in the U.S.

The ball is served underhand from behind the baseline, diagonally to the opponent’s service zone. Points are scored by the serving side only and occur when the opponent zone before playing a volley. The first side scoring 11 points and leading by at least two points wins. The return of service must be allowed to bounce by the server stay at the baseline until the first return has been hit back and bounced once.

Due to popular demand, the tennis courts at Loch Highlands will now be available for you to play pickleball. All you have to do is follow the same reservation process as tennis.
